JAMAICA, N.Y. - Volleyball (17-9, 3-6 BIG EAST) dropped a conference match to St. John's (24-8, 6-4 BIG EAST) Friday night in a five game series.
The first of two conference matches this weekend, the Eagles traveled down to New York to capture a conference win for any chance at post season play. The Eagles swooped down on the Red Storm the first two games, up 30-23 and 30-28. Both offense and defense were working together for BC to bring home a win, before losing three straight to St. John's.
It was a complete turnaround for the Eagles in games three, four and five. The third game, St. John's captured the win 30-15. The Eagles came back to game four strong on offense, but it wasn't enough to toppled the Storm and St. John's tied the match with a 30-22 win. In the final set, the Eagles failed to make any impact and lost 15-6. It was the first time this season the Eagles dropped a match after leading by two games.
Dorota Niemczsewska led the attack for the Eagles. The outside hitter has been spectacular in front of the net this year. She made 17 kills and and teamed up for three block assists against St. John's. Allison Anderson had another terrific night, notching 15 kills and making four defensive digs. Katie Andersen led the defense with 14 digs, while defensive specialist Kristin Kenney had a big night with 10 defensive digs.
The Eagles will continue on the road to Storrs, CT, on Sunday afternoon when they take on UConn at 2 p.m.
