Volleyball Drops Match Against Miami

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball (12-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) was defeated by Miami (13-4, 3-0 BIG EAST) in a three game match Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles, down in Coral Gables after pouncing Virginia Tech Friday night, lost to the BIG EAST second ranked Hurricanes 30-17, 30-27, 30-20. Miami kept BC hitting .133 throughout the match, keeping the outstanding Eagle offense to quiet afternoon.
Freshmen Allison Anderson and Alison Shepp did put out a productive afternoon for BC. Anderson, a team leader on offense, notched 11 kills to put her at 231 for the season. She led the team in both kills and hitting percentage, keeping a steady average of .346. Shepp also made some big plays on offense. The outside hitter nailed 10 kills with only three errors in the afternoon.
Katie Andersen made heavy contributions on defense, making 13 digs and scoring with one block assist. Kristin Kenny and Anderson had some big defensive plays as well, combining for 18 digs.
The Eagles fell short on the afternoon, partly by errors. Combined they had 24 attack errors, six service errors, and four blocking errors. Miami's Valerie Tipiani, BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, led the 'Canes' offense with 15 kills and two block assists. Miami hit .336 and had 16 block assists.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday in Fairfield, Conn. to take on Sacred Heart University at 7 p.m.
