CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Quinnipiac University (1-4) got on the board first, but it was Boston College (1-0) that dominated three periods of play Sunday afternoon to gain a 3-1 win in its home opener. The game marked the first official game for first-year head coach Tom Mutch.
QU's Vicky Graham had lit up the board first early in the opening period, with a shot from right in front of the net. Sarah Campbell assisted on the goal.
The Eagles quickly recovered and kept the offense in front of the Bobcats' goalie for the much of the game. Freshman Michelle Lombardi, a forward from Milton, Mass., evened the score with his first career goal just two minutes later. Her goal beat QU goalie Catherine Lapare on the right side. BC's second goal came a minute later, off the stick of Kaitlin McGrath. The senior forward, who was a major contributor to the Eagle offense last season, came behind the net and slipped the puck past Lapare.
The Eagle offense completely dominated the second period. BC's 15 shots kept the Quinnipiac defense and goalie busy, with 10 of those shots on net. Lapare remained on her game, and the Eagles did not score.
BC maintained control in the final period, with another 15 shots to bring its total to 41 shots. Kristin Blundo wrapped up the scoring with a power-play goal at 5:20.
Quinnipiac pulled its goalie in the final minutes, but couldn't convert with the man advantage.
The Eagles return to the ice on Thursday, October 30 at 7 p.m. when they host Vermont.
