CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- - It probably didn't end the way Syracuse planned Sunday afternoon. A service error by SU right side Kelly Duan handed the Eagles the victory that BC had earned after working so hard for five games.
Boston College (16-6, 3-3 BIG EAST) came ready, and the match was close for every serve of the 180 minute tilt. Dorota Niemczewska had a career high 19 kills. Alison Shepp and Morgan Woodcock each had 16. The Eagle squad had 18 block assists and seven service aces to knock down conference rival SU.
Syracuse (16-10, 4-4 BIG EAST) came out hard and took game one 30-25. The Eagles outperformed the Orangewomen on the attack, hitting .385 to SU's .306, and took game one 30-25.
The Eagles came back on the attack in game two, but Syracuse's defense was tight and kept the BC squad hitting .152. Errors hindered the Eagles, Niemczewska was responsible for three attack errors in game two. Woodcock and Shepp stepped up big on offense, each racking five kills in the second tilt. Syracuse's Kristen Conway and Kelly Duan protected the net and made to block assists on the Eagles. BC offense was halted and the Orangewomen took game two, 30-22.
BC came out big for game three, keeping offense strong and picking up the defense. The Eagles had 27 kills in round three, Liz Aron leading the pack with 10. Under the net it was Woodcock and Dorota Niemczewska that combined for some nasty block assists to ring up the score. BC took the win 30-28.
The Orangewomen dominated game four, keep the BC attack to .096. The Syracuse offense overpowered the Eagles, SU outside hitter Jessica Logan hammering BC with six kills. Syracuse took game four 30-23.
First to 15 points was all it took for the Eagles to rally and take the victory. A steady stream of points by Dorota Niemczewska helped keep the Eagles on top. SU came back on the Eagles 7-0 lead, and it became a tied game. BC eventually broke loose and scored the game point of Duan's second error of the game.
The Eagles will return to action next Friday when they host Villanova. The October 31 match will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Power Gym.
