Volleyball Captures Win Over Providence

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Volleyball (15-5) notched its second win and shutout this week, defeating Providence College (2-20) Friday night in three straight games.
The Eagles let the Friars take the lead to open all three games, but quickly reorganized and took control. The Eagles slipped and made six service errors and one block error, but recovered momentum and brought their game one attack to .385. BC held PC to only 10 kills and a .189 attack. A serving run by Shardai Davis helped BC score some much need points.
Providence took the early lead in game two, up 3-0 before BC could reclaim the lead. Allison Anderson found some space in PC's court to make plays, and led offense in kills with six in games one and two, and had nine digs overall. Alison Shepp stepped up, making five kills on seven attempts. The freshman hit .571 and took part in one block assist. The Friars had three team blocks on BC in game two. The Eagles only had one block.
Boston College found a groove in game three, pushing PC down to hit -.121. Dorota Niemczewska and Shepp had five kills a piece, Anderson closely behind with four. BC completely shutdown the Friar's offense by allowing only five kills in the final game.
Overall BC combined to hit .400. Niemczewska led the Eagle squad with an attack of .588. Katie Andersen was quiet on offense Friday night, but had five defensive digs. BC made five service aces, and combined for extra points with four block assists.
For Providence, Ayana Cadres and Kerry Shulz led the Friars on offense with eight kills each. Allison Baker came up big for PC with five digs.
The Eagles will return to action next Friday, October 31, 2003. BC will host 15th ranked Notre Dame in Power Gym at 7:30 p.m.
