Baseball Drops Series Finale To Seton Hall, 5-4

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall first baseman Tim Pahuta's single through the right side of the infield in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Pirates a 5-4 victory over the Boston College baseball team Sunday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 15-13 and 6-4 in the BIG EAST, while the Pirates move their overall record to 15-14 and 6-4 in the conference.
Freshman pitcher Kevin Shepard had an outstanding afternoon for Boston College, as he pitched eight complete innings. He gave up 10 hits, three runs (all earned), one walk and struck out 10 Seton Hall batters. Over the three games, Boston College starting pitchers struck out 30 Seton Hall batters. Freshman relief pitcher Mike Gauthier (0-2) picked up the loss for the Eagles, as he went 1.2 innings giving up two runs (both earned), three hits, two walks and struck out two batters.
The Eagles were in cruise control for the majority of the game, as through their half of the eighth inning they led the Pirates 4-2. Boston College posted one run in the first, two runs in the second and its final run in the eighth. The Pirates clawed their way back into the game with one run in the last four innings, including the game winner in the 10th.
Center fielder Drew Locke continued his solid weekend for the Eagles, as he went 2-for-5 with two RBI. First baseman Vinny Scavone and third baseman Jason Delaney also recorded two hits apiece. Seton Hall out-hit Boston College for the second-consecutive game, as they recorded 13 hits to BC's 10.
Pahuta was definitely the hero of the game for Seton Hall, as he went 4-for-5 from the plate with two RBI, which included the game winner. Pitcher Isaac Pavlik (2-3) picked up the win for the Pirates, as he came in to pitch three innings giving up two hits while striking out four batters.
The Boston College baseball team will look to rebound when it is back in action at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, against the University of Albany in Albany, N.Y. The Eagles next home contest is on Friday, April 12, at 12 p.m. when they host West Virginia in a BIG EAST doubleheader.
