Baseball Upends Lehigh For Fifth Win, 11-5

HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Strong outings by four pitchers and at least two hits by seven batters helped lead the Boston College baseball team to an 11-5 victory over Lehigh University on Wednesday, March 6, in the Homestead Challenge.
Neither team was able to get on the board in the first inning, however, the Eagles exploded in the top of the second inning with eight runs. First baseman Vinny Scavone led the BC charge in the second with a two-run home run, while right fielder Brian Macchi drove in three runs when he nailed a triple. Scavone finished 3-for-5 for the game, while scoring and driving in two runs. Macchi also had a solid day from the plate, as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Of the 18 hits Boston College pounded out, center fielder Matt Lederhos, substitute right fielder Drew Locke, catcher Jeff Mackor, third baseman Jason Delaney and second baseman Josh DiScipio all recorded two hits apiece. Delaney and shortstop Matthew Duffey each drove in two runs apiece.
Sophomore pitcher Matt O'Donnell pitched only four innings for the Eagles, but he gave up only three hits, two runs and three walks while striking out six Lehigh batters. Freshmen Joe Martinez, James Cox and junior Matt Elfeldt helped secure the game after O'Donnell left in the fourth.
Second baseman Eric Hoffman led Lehigh on the afternoon, as he finished 4-for-5 from the plate with three RBI.
