Ft. Myers, Fla. - The Boston College baseball team fell to Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, 2-1 in seven innings, Friday evening at the City of the Palm Field, which is the Red Sox spring training facility. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-12 all-time against the Red Sox.
In front of a crowd of 5,569 fans, the Eagles jumped out on the Red Sox in the top of the second inning, 1-0. However, the Red Sox rebounded in their half of the second when third baseman Shea Hillenbrand knocked a two-run home run off of Eagles' pitcher Matt O'Donnell. Hillebrand's home run is all the Red Sox would need in the seven-inning contest.
For Boston College, a total of 22 players saw action in the game. Senior catcher Jeff Mackor and freshman second baseman Ryan Morgan led the Eagles with two hits apiece. The Eagles went through six pitchers during the game, with not of them giving up more than one hit to a Boston Red Sox batter.
The Eagles other three hits came from freshmen Andrew Locke, Zach Keenan and sophomore Vinny Scavone. O'Donnell was credited with the loss for Boston College in the exhibition contest, while Red Sox pitcher Anastacio Martinez picked up the win.
Boston College is back in action at 2 p.m. Sunday for its first game of the Homestead Challenge against Florida International University in Homestead, Fla.
