Softball Drops Three One-Run Games

ATLANTA - Boston College dropped three one-run decisions on Saturday in the first day of the Georgia State Round Robin. The Eagles opened the day with a 1-0 loss to Tennessee, then fell to Georgia State, 6-5. In its final game of the afternoon, the team fell to No. 16 Iowa, 7-6.
In the second game, BC held a 5-4 lead headed into the bottom of the seventh inning, the hosts rallied to take the game with a two-run final frame. BC collected 11 hits in the game, allowing only three. The Eagles kept GSU in the game by committing four errors. Cara Blumfield went 3-for-4 with 2 runs batted in, while Elyse Meredith was 2-for-4. All but one starter recorded a hit in the game.
In the final game, the Eagles managed eight hits off of the Hawkeye pitching staff, including two home runs. Erin Mackey hit her first collegiate homer in the first inning, then added a double in the game. She had three runs batted in for the game. Meredith added a two-run shot later in the game, but it was not enough to lift the team to a win.
With the trio of losses, the Eagles fall to 1-7 on the season. BC will complete the two-day round robin with games against Ball State and Drexel on Sunday.
