CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 20th-ranked Boston College women's basketball team picked up its 17th win of the 2001-02 season on Saturday afternoon as it defeated BIG EAST rival Georgetown 75-62 in front of 4,207 fans at Conte Forum. The Eagles now stand 17-4 overall, 8-2 in the BIG EAST.
Senior Nicole Conway (Glenmont, N.Y.) and freshman Clare Droesch (Belle Harbor, N.Y.), who combined for 45 of the Eagles 75 points, led the Eagles on Saturday afternoon as both finished with career highs.
Conway finished 20 points, on 9-of-11 shooting, and eight rebounds. Conway's fourth rebound of the game, which came in the first half, was her 500th of her career. Following the contest with the Hoyas, Conway now has 504 career rebounds, which places her 13th on the Boston College all-time list.
Droesch, whose previous career high came against St. Joseph's back on December 1 where she had 24 points, was the game's high scorer, finishing with 25 points. She finished 8-for-18 from the field and 5-for-9 behind the three-point line. Her five three-point field goals tied her career high, which she had in the Eagles previous contest against West Virginia.
The Eagles jumped out early in the contest, getting up by as much as seven points in the first half. With Boston College leading 32-26 with 4:34 remaining in the first half, Georgetown went on a 14-5 run to go into the intermission with a 40-37 lead.
Both teams battled back-and-forth in the second half as neither team was able to get up by more than five points through the first 11 minutes. With the score knotted at 52-52 with 8:19 remaining in the contest, Droesch drained a three pointer to help get the Eagles' offense going. Following the three-point basket by the game's high scorer, the Eagles went on a 20-10 run to close out the contest.
The Hoyas were led by 2000-01 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Rebekkah Brunson, who finished with 17 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Forward Nok Duany and guard Lesley Walker chipped in with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
