CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team got back on a winning track tonight by defeating the University of Maine, 3-1, in Power Gymnasium. The Eagles brought their record to 8-10 with the win, while the Blackbears fell to 6-12 on the season.
The Eagles came out in game one determined to snap their five-match losing streak. With teamwork and accurate passing, they took the game 30-18. After switching courts, however, the Blackbears achieved similar success, and topped Boston College 30-19 to tie the match at one game each. Rachel Bach nailed consecutive service aces and Liz Aron came on strong despite the Eagle defeat.
The third game began evenly. Knotted at 10-10, Boston College took over, scoring five straight points. Maine could not stop Bach's powerful hitting and the Eagles never looked back, winning 30-16. The Blackbears tried to hold on in the final game, but once again could not dig Bach and Aron. Boston College captured the game 30-20 to secure the match and their first victory since they bested Gardner-Webb on Sept. 21.
Aron led the Eagles with a kill-dig double-double. BC's defensive backbone Lauren Schwer had a match-high 21 digs, while Jessica Brizzolara set for 42 assists. Maine received double-double efforts from Leah Guidinger and Alaina Kleparek.
The Eagles begin a four-match road trip when they travel to Pittsburgh on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
