Women's Ice Hockey Downed by North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team (1-2-0) fell, 5-3, to the University of North Dakota (1-1-1) Sunday afternoon at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
Boston College tallied the game's first two goals in the first period. Senior assistant captain Genevieve Richardson notched her first of the season, unassisted, 9:55 into the game. Renee Taylor beat UND goaltender, Margaret-Ann Hinkley at 10:49. Heidi Seidewand and Jill McInnis assisted on the second goal.
Boston College could not control Stasia Bakhit, Anne Girtz, and Jessica Kovacevich, as they led the Fighting Sioux to dominate the second period. Kovacevich and Bakhit each scored once, and added one and two assists, respectively, in the period. Linemate Anne Girtz scored twice and assisted on the Kovacevich power play goal.
Eagle senior Jaclyn Kryzak capitalized on a power play opportunity at 14:57 in the third period. Boston College pulled goaltender Lisa Davis to gain an advantage with 0:36 left in the game and Natasha Holt put the puck in the empty net.
Each team was successful on the power play, each going 1-4 on the day.
Davis made 18 saves for the Eagles, and Hinkley recorded 16 in her first collegiate start.
Boston College will host the inaugural women's Hockey East game on Friday, Nov. 1 at Kelly Rink in Chestnut Hill. The puck will drop at 7 p.m.
