CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team (7-10) dropped its fifth consecutive match to the University of New Hampshire (10-9) tonight in Power Gymnasium. Sophomore Katie Andersen extended a five-match streak of her own, in double-doubles, in the Eagles' 3-1 loss. Junior Wildcat Alyson Coler also finished with a double-double and reached the 1,000 career kill milestone.
Each game of the match opened evenhandedly. In the first game, Boston College fell behind the Wildcats but mustered a quiet comeback to bring the score within one. They could not, however, capture the lead, and lost 27-30.
The closeness of the second game is reflected in the score. The Eagles held the largest lead of the game, four points on top of the Wildcats, 23-19, but UNH came back and forced the home team to foil four opportunities to put the game away. New Hampshire junior Coler temporarily halted the Eagle attack when she nailed her 10th kill of the game to reach the 1,000 career kill milestone. Boston College finally captured the game 32-30 on their fifth chance for game point.
The Wildcats trailed for a majority of the third game, but equalized the score at 26. From there, they froze the Eagles to take the game 30-26.
Game four was similar to game three in that five attempts at game point were necessary. The Wildcats managed to edge out the Eagles 34-32 for match point.
Along with notching her 1,000th kill, Coler recorded a kill-dig double-double. Captain Lauren Knight also scored in double figures in both categories.
The Eagles will take the court against the University of Maine next Wednesday, October 9, in Power Gymnasium. The match will begin at 7:30.
