PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - William Green returned from a one-game suspension and ran for 213 yards and a touchdown to lead Boston College to a 38-7 victory over Rutgers on Saturday.
Brian St. Pierre also threw three touchdown passes as the Eagles (7-3, 4-2) rebounded from a heartbreaking loss to No. 1 Miami last weekend and handed Rutgers (2-8, 0-7) its 15th straight Big East Conference loss.
Keith Hemmings, Dedrick Dewalt and Jamal Burke caught touchdowns passes, and Derrick Knight scored on a 1-yard run for the Eagles, bowl eligible for the third straight year.
Green, who came into the game leading the nation with a 145.5-yard average, carried 31 times in posting his fourth career 200-yard game. It was his second this season and second straight against Rutgers. He gained 223 yards last season.
Green, who scored on a 1-yard run, was suspended for last week's 18-7 loss to Miami for violating a team rule. He has 1,377 yard rushing, the third-best single-season total in school history, 10 yards behind Charlie Dukes' total in 1992. Mike Cloud set the record of 1,726 yards in 1998.
Earlier this week, Green denied reports that he intended to skip his final year of eligibility to turn pro.
Nathan Jones scored on a 70-yard interception return for Rutgers, winless in the conference in three of the last five seasons.
The Scarlet Knights were outscored 325-36 in the conference this season. Rutgers' point total is a conference record low, breaking the standard for offensive ineptitude set by Temple in 1993.
In five of the Scarlet Knights' seven league games under new coach Greg Schiano, the offense failed to score a touchdown.
The Eagles scored on four of their five possessions in taking a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter. Boston College needed only 20 plays to complete the drives of 60, 53, 49 and 60 yards, with no drive taking longer than 2:16.
St. Pierre, who was 11 of 23 for 162 yards and two interceptions, capped the first three possessions with touchdown passes.
Hemmings scored on a 40-yard pass play down the right sidelines just five plays after Rutgers failed on a fourth-and-2 at the Boston College 40 on its opening possession.
Runs of 33 and 12 yards by Green set up St. Pierre's 4-yard touchdown pass to Dewalt on the Eagles' next possession.
The defense had a hand in the next score when linebacker Josh Ott recovered a fumble by Rutgers quarterback Ryan Cubit following a 20-yard scramble at the Rutgers 49. Four plays later, St. Pierre threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Burke, his eighth TD catch of the season.
Green scored his 13th rushing touchdown of the season just one play after he was pushed out of bounds on a 31-yard run.
Boston College is 9-0-1 in its last 10 games with Rutgers, which has lost 22 of its last 23 Big East games.
