Boston College vs. Syracuse - 10/14/00
Boston College's Lenny Walls' interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter was the first of his career and his third interception of the season. The touchdown return was the Eagles' second of the season (Curtis Bolden at Army, 9/9/00).
Boston College's Cedric Washington's 40-yard rush in the second quarter was a career best. His previous long was 37 yards.
Syracuse's Dee Brown's 105 yards moved him to 11th on the all-time Syracuse rushing list. He moved ahead of Jim Brown.
Boston College's William Green's 65-yard rush in the first quarter was Boston College's longest since Mike Cloud also rushed for 65 yards against Virginia Tech (10/8/98).
Syracuse's Troy Nunes's four interceptions in the game is a career-high. Nunes came into the game as the NCAA's 3rd rated passer.
Green rushed for his third-straight 100+ yard game with his 104 yards.
Green's rushing touchdown in the third quarter gave him a touchdown in each of the Eagles' six games this season.
Boston College's Ralph Parent had two interceptions on the day. His first, at the end of the first half, was his first career interception.
The American flag flying above Alumni Stadium was flown at half-staff in honor of those killed in the suicide bombing of the American naval ship in Yemen on Thursday.
Dee Brown's 104 yards and James Mungro's 155 yards gave Syracuse its first game with two rushers with 100-yard games in the same contest since the last game of the season in 1997 versus Miami, when Kyle McIntosh, Dee Brown and Donovan McNabb all rushed for over 100 yards.
The last time Boston College defeated Syracuse at Alumni Stadium was 1994 when the Eagles outscored the Orangemen, 31-0.
The last time Boston College had back-to-back wins over Syracuse was in 1993 and 1994, when the Eagles defeated the Orangemen 33-29 in the Carrier Dome, then topped them 31-0 at Alumni Stadium.
Scarminach Award winners Scarminach Award winners Ralph Parent of Boston College and James Mongro of Syracuse. One player from each team in the yearly contest is honored with the Orrie T. Scarminach Award, presented annually for the past 18 years to each team's MVPs. The award is named for the former Boston College player, and native of Syracuse area, who was killed in an automobile accident while in college.
