Women's Swimming Falls To Harvard, 167-114

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College fell 167-114 to Harvard Tuesday at the Flynn Recreation Complex in Chestnut Hill.
The Crimson took off to a 49-25 lead after four events, winning three of the four including a one-two finish in the 100 breaststroke. BC cut the deficit to 19 after the one-meter diving competition (event seven) on the strength of Kristen Gray's (West Boylston, Mass.) event-winning effort of 252.60 points and Shannon Lents' (Boca Raton, Fla.) 241.80 points, good enough for third but the Eagles would not creep any closer. Erin Murphy (Glencoe, Ill.) also placed fourth in that event with 224.03.
Gray and Lents finished 2-3 in the three-meter event, totaling 246.00 and 245.00 points, respectively.
The Eagles were victorious in both backstroke events as Brianne Sullivan (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the 100-yard back (1:00.66), and Melissa Pierce (The Woodlands, Texas) finished first in the 200 (2:10.15). Sullivan placed third in the 200 back (2:16.12).
BC's freshman sprinter Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif.) won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.91 while placing second in the 100 free (54.17). Sophomore Alexis Kostopoulos (Marblehead, Mass.) was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.05) and third in the 100-yard version of the stroke (1:07.78).
Nicole Duffy (Chesterfield, Mo.) finished second twice during the meet, clocking 1:56.87 in the 200 free, just 0.72 off the pace, and 5:10.83 in the 500 freestyle.
Sophomore Lauren Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) swam 1:00.48 for second in the 100 fly in addition to a 2:10.02 effort for third in the 200 butterfly.
Harvard's Corie Calfee (Davis, Calif.) captured both the 100 breastroke (1:06.42) and 100 individual medley ( 1:00.62) victories. Her teammate, Lovisa Gustafsson (Narbeth, Penn., won the 200 butterfly (2:08.91) and 500 freestyle (5:06.39) events.
