A graduate of Boston College in 2016, Dan Kelly quickly returned to the Heights as Assistant Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach in January of 2017. In the first three months Kelly served as a coach, he helped the team break eight school records and achieve a team average GPA of 3.42 (women) and 3.13 (men).
Alongside Coach Mike Stephens, Kelly brings passion and energy to the pool deck. As a member of the team from 2012-2016, he was an essential part of the program’s recent improvement. On the men’s side, Kelly and his teammates were able to rewrite the school record book – successfully breaking every program record in a span of four years. As a coach, Kelly aspires to build on this rapid improvement and help the program to establish itself as one of the top swimming and diving teams in the New England area.
A native of River Forest, Illinois, Kelly swam for Fenwick High School under coach Luke McGuire and Team Millennium under Kathy Rigali. His club swimming experience also includes a summer spent in Berkeley, California swimming for Cal Aquatics under Dave Durden.
Kelly was the 2016 Senior Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a four-time Athletic Director's Academic Achievement Award honoree. He was also an NCAA Academic All-America honorable mention.
The team captain in 2016, Kelly currently holds seven program records and was the 2014 and 2016 team MVP. Kelly was a 2016 Olympic Trial qualifier in the 50 freestyle and placed 48th at the 2014 US National Swimming Championship in the event.
Kelly was also a member of the men's club water polo team. He helped the team place fourth in 2014 club water polo National Tournament and was a CWPA All-American first team selection.
