
Segalla Earns Gold in the 1600 Relay at the 2023 Pan American U20 Championships

Rising sophomore runs the third leg for the gold medal relay team
MAYAQUEZ, Puerto Rico – Sydney Segalla placed first in the 1600 Relay and Damon Frabotta placed third in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2023 Pan American U20 Championships, held over three days at Jose A. Figueroa Freire Stadium.Â
Segalla was part of the gold medal relay team on Sunday that finished with a time of 3:30.25. She broke her own School Record at the 400m and established a new PR with a time of 52.58 at the USATF U20 championships in July 2023. Segalla set the previous School Record finishing 13th at the ACC Championships with a time of 53.85. She also set a 200m PR with a time of 24.10, which lead her to finish 16th at the ACC Championships and give her the #2 BC All Time Performance.
Frabotta crossed the line at 52.19, earning him the bronze medal on Friday. This is Boston College's first Pan American Junior (U20) Track & Field Medal since Paul Shea won gold in the 5000m at the 1989 Championships in Santa Fe, Argentina. Frabotta previously set a PR and a school record in this event with a time of 51.89 at the USATF U20 championships on July 9th in Eugune, Oregon.
