Head coach Steve Addazio
Â
Overall thoughts on the scrimmage …
"It's was good. A lot of good things happened. (We have) a lot of things to work on … We came out relatively unscathed. We did a lot of work and we have a lot of stuff we can evaluate. We are not too badly hurt and you always feel good about that."
Â
"We made some big plays on offense and gave away some plays some big plays on defense - made some good plays, gave up some good plays. It was good. There was enough to go around out there. There was a lot of good competition out there. We have a good chance to watch that tape and evaluate it."
Â
On wide receiver Charlie Callinan's progress …
"We call him a hybrid guy. He's a big guy, who has the speed to play outside, yet he can get near the backs and give you like a tight end feel. He's back and he brings a lot."
Â
"We are trying to use the big bodies. I don't think we got the ball to (Tommy) Sweeney as much as we probably would have liked to. I don't think we got to him at all. We tried a couple of times but we overthrew him. He's another playmaker."
Â
About running back Davon Jones …
"Davon (Jones) is a real powerful, physical guy. He'll get you four or five yards. He's got great feet and has real contact power - that's what he has. Certain backs have contact power, when he hits you they move you."
Â
"We run a power running game. So you need that. Jon Hilliman is a big back with speed and power, Davon (Jones) has that power, Myles (Willis) is a homerun hitter and (Tyler) Rouse can do all of it. When you want to run the ball you need backs. We've got a nice little stable of backs right now."
Â
On competition at quarterback …
"They both competed really hard today. They both made some real plays. Both threw the ball – at times – well. Also, both had some issues finding their receivers. But I think they did a nice job today."
Â
On Thadd Smith's big play down the sideline … Â
"He did a nice job today. It's nice to see us complete a few of those fade balls. You have to throw the ball vertically down the field. When you see it (the fade ball), it builds confidence."
Â
Jr. LB Connor Strachan
Â
On playing a full scrimmage …
"I think it was a lot of fun to play full-on defense and football again. Anytime you get a chance to scrimmage in a game-like atmosphere, it's a ton of fun. It's fun to get out there and compete with your teammates."
Â
On his leadership in the middle …
"As Mike, you've got to be able to set the defense and get people lined up, so I definitely had to do that a lot. Our defense, a lot of our guys have played a lot of football so it's not that hard. Everyone is locked in to what they're doing and we're working well as a unit."
Â
On facing a varied offense with multiple quarterbacks …
"We've got so many great players (on offense) so they're going to throw everything at us. It's only going to help us and make us a better defense."
Â
Gr. QB Patrick Towles
Â
On Charlie Callinan …
"He's a big-bodied guy. He's an older guy who's got a lot of experience. We've had the opportunity to develop a very good relationship off the field so that's definitely translating on the field. He's a guy you can look for on third downs. He runs strong routes. He's got a big body, he boxes people out and he's got really, really good hands.
Â
On the stable of running backs …
"It's going to be great. It's essential. Everything goes into it. We put a lot of stress into it because it's extremely vital and important. Tyler (Rouse), Myles (Willis), Davon (Jones), Rich(ard Wilson), Jon (Hilliman) – all those guys are awesome, awesome, awesome players. They're going to do nothing but great things for us."
Â
On Thadd Smith's speed and the younger receivers …
"He's a really good player. He made a couple of great catches today. We'll get Mikey Walker and Jeff Smith back and they'll both be great at stretching the field, so we'll be really good at that aspect."
Â
On his relationship with the offensive line and the team's development …
"I'm 100 percent confident in those guys. They're going to be great. All around at every positions, we had some mess ups today – including myself – so we have to watch the film, continue to get better and be better football team on Monday than we were today."
Â
R-So. QB Darius Wade
Â
On his 40 yard connection with Elijah Robinson from the goal line …
"It was definitely a good play. In that situation – a goal line situation – everyone is pressed out. They think it's going to be a run. I had great protection and I was able to find my receiver down the field and we were able to make a play. It's always great in a coming out situation where you need to flip the field and change the momentum. It's definitely great to see."
Â
On the running game …
"That's a staple of Boston College. We're a big physical team and we want to enforce our will on the other team. Going against our great defense every day of the week, it's just getting our backs, our line – everyone on the team – better. We've just got to keep getting after it every day and keep trying to improve every day."
Â
On Charlie Callinan …
"Charlie is a definitely a player who can do a lot for us. He's a guy who's willing to do anything to help the team. He's put on weight, but we're going to use him however we can. And that's really the coaches' decision in how we're going to utilize a player, but he's willing to do anything for us and he's going to make plays."
Â
Senior RB Myles Willis
Â
About his two touchdowns …
"They were scoring and we were down at that point. We had a play that I really liked, and I liked the defensive front going against us. I got to hit this, got to hit this clean and take it to the house."
Â
On being in for goal-line work …
"I do whatever I'm asked to do. We have a long ways to go. That's the beauty of scrimmages on days like this: you go out and play for a long period. It's not like practice with a short 10 minute period. You make mistakes and improve upon them. It's like a game atmosphere. If you have a bad first half you make it a good second half."
Â
On his role as an upperclassman …
"Seeing the freshman, I want to make them relax. When you are a senior, the coaches want to see what you can and can't do, and you always try and get better. At the end of the day, it's a long camp. I tell the younger guys that they think they make a bad play and they think the whole camp is finished. I say, 'You still have a long ways to go.' It's three weeks. My first week of camp I don't think I was in the rotation much."
