The Boston College women's soccer team will host No. 7/8 North Carolina on Thursday, October 20 at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early at the Newton Soccer Field as admission is free for the match.
Boston College is currently fifth in the ACC with a 4-3-0 conference record, while North Carolina is tied for first with Duke with a 5-1-1 record.
BC vs. North Carolina
The Eagles the Tar Heels have a long past. The two teams actually played four times in the 80's. BC lost all four games but it was the start of women's college soccer. UNC has an 11-1 edge in the series.
Boston College earned its first win over the Tar Heels last season in a wild 3-2 victory at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, NC. Alaina Beyar, Kristen Mewis and Victoria DiMartino scored in the win. Since joining the ACC, BC is 1-8 vs. the Tar Heels. Of the nine games, five have been one point matches. Two games have gone into overtime.
Sensational Seniors
The senior class - Jillian Mastroianni, Julia Bouchelle, Alaina Beyar, Alyssa Pember, Stephanie Wirth and Marissa Mello - have amassed 59 victories thus far. The 2010 senior class considered one of coach Alison Foley's most successful, won 61 total games. That class included: Hannah Cerrone, Amy Caldwell, Natalie Crutchfield, Chelsea Regan, Jill MacNeil and Brooke Knowlton.
In the ACC
Boston College is 36-24-7 in the ACC since joining the conference in 2005. While in the comforts of the Newton Soccer Field, BC is 21-8-4 against ACC opponents. The Eagles are 17-15-4 on the road against ACC opponents since 2005. In the last three years the Eagles are 9-5-1 away from Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Corner Kicks
• The Eagles RPI is 18 this week.
• Boston College is 2-0-2 in overtime matches this season. The Eagles tied BU to open the season a 1-1 in double-overtime. On September 1 Boston College tied Syracuse, 0-0 in double-overtime. The Eagles improved its overtime record with a 2-1 come from behind victory over Maryland in overtime on Sept. 22. BC picked up its second overtime win against Virginia Tech on the road. The Eagles earned a 2-1 double-overtime win on Sept. 25.
• Freshman Casey Morrison is the only rookie to have started every game. Rachel Davitt, another freshman, has started six of the 14 games this season.
• BC has out-shot opponents, 230-124. Junior Kristie Mewis leads BC with 59 shots, while Victoria DiMartino is second with 28.
• Coach Alison Foley is two wins away from 200 victories while at Boston College. Foley has 202 overall victories.
• The Eagles are 12-1 at home in the last 13 games, dating back to the 2010 season. In the last four years, BC is 29-0-4 in non-conference games at home. The Eagles are 55-10-9 overall at home since the 2005 season.
• Boston College's next home game is against NC State on Sunday, October 23 at 1 p.m. Prior to the match, the senior class will be honored. Admission is free.
